CTF-Station

What is it?


CTF Station is a multiplayer capture the flag level for unreal tournament,

it was created as a part of a school assignment at Futuregames in the fall of 2016.


The map is my personal take on a classical unreal tournament arena maps. It takes place on a space station housing two rivaling mining factions.


The level has a symmetrical shape dividing the teams corrosponding sides by color.

The level consists of several different levels and plays with verticality. The team bases are located at on each side of a center atrium with two walkways flanking it on each side leading from flagbase to flagbase.

Level Iterations

The level had several changes throughout the design process but without ever changing its originally designed overall layout. Changes were made based upon data and feedback collected through several playtests with other gamers and level designers.

Weapon Placements

The weapons are placed in a manner that forces the players to move around and use the terrain. The link guns are situated in the spawn area allowing the players to obtain a good allround midrange weapon from the start.


In the centrum atrium of the level there are rocket launchers and the area is heavily populated by players. This forces them to use the verticality to avoid getting shot. The atrium provides the fastest toutes to the enemy flag by far but it is also the most dangerous and chaotic area.


The shock guns are located on the promenad outside of the flagbases. They are located in a position that alows for excellent overview of the promenad. This allows for a deadly sniping position for the defender and forces the attacker to move quickly and use the terrain in a smart way.


In the center of the promenad there are machine guns giving an average supressing weapon for those who find themselves under sniper fire.


The flak guns are located in the narrow corridors linking the bases to the promenad as a lethal cqb choice.


The sniper rifle is located highest up in the base close to the flag. It is placed in enclosed space so that players will have to go quite far to get it and then move to an open area to make use of this deadly weapon.

Sublevel

The sublevel contains a couple of health vials evenly distributed on both sides. In the absoloute center is a cross section of stairs down to body armor wich is accessable from all four sides. There are also two jump-pads one on each side leading to the floor above.

First Level

The first level is where most of the carnage takes place. In the center is the atrium and on each side are the bases. They are seperated from the atrium with a door preventing the enemy from just shooting straight into it. Outside these doors are several walkways. One walkway hugs the wall leading to the promenads It is here that the rocket launcher is located. Another one leads straight across to the other base with a couple of crates as cover. From this center walkway are two ramps leading up one level and eventually to the flagrooms.

On the right side of each base is a small curved hall connecting the base and the promenad. There is a small door protecting it and right in front of the door is a flak cannon. The promenad itself is pretty open with the exeption of two crates and some stairs leading to the sublevel as cover. In the center is a walkway leading over to the atrium and in the middle of it is a minigun.

On the other side are some stairs that leads up to the second level and to the enemy base.

There is a shock rifle overlooking the promenad here.

From here players can get direct access to the enemy base or take a flight of stairs leading up to the enemy flag level.

Second Level

The second level is the area connecting the first level and the flag level. There are two staircases connecting it with the lower level of the main base and an exit leading towards the promenad. There is a lift right in front od the exit leading up to the flag. There are two 50% medkits and a linkgun next to the stairs overlooking the lower level of the main base.

Flag Level

The flag level has an exit to the left that leads to some stairs leading down to the level below and to the promenad. On the right side is a ramp that leads to the atrium throught the small area connecting the flagbase and the promenad on the opposite side. There are four 50% medkit on this level. Two of them are next to the lift and the other two are on differnt sides of the gap over the lower levels of the base.

There is a sniper rifle located in the small area right outide of the flagroom. The flagroom itself overlooks the atrium with some bulletproof glass protecting it.
